Born in Watsonville, California on October 20, 1952. Mother, Grace Crosetti, Father, Donald D. Chapin Sr.
Lived in Watsonville and graduated from Mora Central High School in 1970. Attended one semester community college at Cabrillo College in Soquel. Went to work for his father, Chapin and Clark Inc., a local septic tank contractor in 1971. Was employed there as an operator and crew leader until May of 1975 when he left to form his own business.
Started his own business with the purchase of a dump truck for the purpose of contract hauling for the construction trades. In 1976, the construction industry was struggling and Don began hauling general freight and refrigerated commodities until the construction industry turned around. In 1977, he purchased a new backhoe and began working as an owner operator installing septic systems and grading land. In 1978, Don’s father came in with him and they formed the Don Chapin Co. Inc.
That company started with 5 employees, and today, with all the related and associated businesses he owns, has an average annual employment of 325 employees.
Don Chapin Jr. has been the President and CEO of the corporation since it’s inception and continues in that role today. The company and its associated businesses are as follows
- The Don Chapin Co. Inc., General Engineering and construction material sales (concrete ready mix, aggregates, etc). Annual gross volume in sales approximately $65,000.000.00
- Assured Aggregates Co. Inc., Trucking of construction materials, aggregate sales. Annual gross volume in sales approximately $14,000,000.00
- Landset Engineers Inc., Professional Engineering, Land planning and engineering. Annual gross volume in sales approximately $1,000.000.00
- Land development and housing constructed both custom and spec contributes approximately $2,000,000.00 per year.
Don is currently President of the Lagunita School Board of Trustees, and Secretary for the North County Fire District Board of Directors, both elected positions. He is also associated with community groups and organizations such as Common Ground Monterey County, The Boy Scouts, YMCA, CSUMB, Madonna Del Sasso Church, California International Airshow, and many more.
Don is married to wife Barbara and has three children, Caroline, age 27, Donald D. Chapin III, age 25, and Erin, age 14. Don has a few hobbies including golf, motor homing, and fishing.
